Michael Lightfoot

Michael Lightfoot is an acclaimed British-Australian artist, illustrator and cartoonist based in Brighton, UK. Michael’s fine art paintings and drawings which include Swing Dancing at Passing Clouds (2015), Heaven (2023) and Meta-morphoses (2023) are characterised by their bold yet elegant renderings of the human form. Alongside his contributions to fine art, Michael has designed storyboards which have helped realise the cinematic vision for Halal Daddy (2017), Desertion (2016) and Into the Surf (2015) and advertising campaigns for L’Oréal Paris. Michael’s interest in narrative storytelling has led him in recent years to writing and illustrating comics; these works include ‘Looking for Love in Brexit Britain’ which explores the societal divisions in the wake of the EU referendum and ‘Autumn 2014’ – a tender story of unrequited love – which came runner-up at the Guardian/Faber Graphic Short Story Prize in 2022. Michael studied Fine Art at Curtin University, Australia between 1994-1997.
