Director

Spencer Anderson

Born 1994 · Oxfordshire, England, UK

Spencer Anderson was born on March 23, 1994 in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom to single mother Kim Louise Anderson, a shop assistant at Boots. Spencer showed a keen interest for film and animation and would often quote and mimic lines of dialogue from his favorite cartoon characters. From the age of 8, his mother encouraged his love for the arts by enlisting him on many different art courses, including stop-motion animation, that were free to low income communities. At 15, Spencer decided he wanted to pursue film directing but at the time, he was not quite prepared to make the sacrifice or commitment due to life distractions. 5 years later, Spencer pursued making his first short film inspired by his own struggle with Aspergers Syndrome as his Final Major Project at Banbury and Bicester college. This gained him a place to study Film Production at Southampton University where he went onto write and direct four shorts, "Super-Being", "Fallen", "April" and "Line of Sight", 2 documentaries and a string of corporate productions. Spencer notes Stanley Kubrick, Terrence Malick, Krzysztof Kieslowski, M. Night Shyamalan and the Coen Brothers as his main influences. In September 2019, Spencer graduated his Masters in Film Production and went onto work as a Kitchen Porter while writing his next short film. In January 2020, Spencer leaves his job as a Kitchen Porter after saving enough money to get by for a few months. After the Covid outbreak, in March 2020, Spencer got a temporary job at his local Tesco's to make ends meet after his freelance work had been halted. In June 2020, like many of the temporary staff, Spencer was given his 4 week notice. 2 weeks later, Spencer was given an interview slot with Sir Kenneth Branagh on his next production. 1 week later, he was then hired to be Kenneth Branagh's Researcher for "Belfast" (2021) and was hired again in December of that year for "This England" (2022). In September of 2021, Spencer went onto direct "Satellites" starring Tamzin Murray. Spencer plans to direct "The Zulu Warrior" in the near future which he considers will be his most challenging short film project yet.
