Born 1980 · Egypt

Shereen is an Egyptian musician who was born on the 10th of October, 1980 in the Al Qal’aa (The Citadel) district of Cairo. As a child she wished to grow up to be a doctor or a nurse. However she did not realize that goal as she grew interested in the performing arts from an early age and was encouraged by those around her who insisted that she had a nice voice. At the age of 13 she began singing at weddings which were either those of her relatives or other people living in her neighborhood. Her talents were then discovered by producer Nasr Mahrous and she thus presented her first recorded song as part of an album which included works by other artists. Thereafter Shereen took part in a duetto titled “Bahebak” (“I Love You”) with Mohamed Mohyy in early 2000. Thus she became well known among audiences, something which encouraged Nasr Mahrous to take a bold and important step in Shereen’s career. Nasr arranged for Shereen to release a joint album with Tamer Housny titled “Free Mix”. The album was a big hit particularly because of her single titled “Ah ya Leil” (“Oh, Night”) which saw Shereen become well known amongst audiences. That album was followed by “Garrh Tanee” (“A Second Wound”) which was released in 2003 and heralded continued success. In that same year Shereen acted alongside Ahmed Helmy in the film title “Medo Mashakil” (“Medo’s Troubles”). In 2005 Shereen presented another album titled “Lazim A’eesh” (“I Must Live On”) in what was her last collaboration with producer Nasr Mahrous. Shereen then signed a contract with Rotana to produce another album in 2009. Shereen can be considered among the most important contemporary Egyptian musicians active today.
