Kate Hackett, ACE, is an Emmy-winning film editor based in Los Angeles, specializing in both documentary and narrative films. She has edited notable projects such as the Netflix series Cheer and Last Chance U, as well as the A24 documentary Open Wide. Her most recent work includes editing the documentary SALLY for National Geographic, directed by Cristina Costantini, which follows the life of astronaut Dr. Sally Ride and is set to premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. Hackett's editing on Cheer earned her an Emmy Award, and she also received an ACE Eddie Award for her work on the series. Additionally, she edited the Netflix documentary series D.B. Cooper: Where Are You?!, directed by Marina Zenovich. In 2018, Hackett was honored as the Sundance Institute Sally Menke Editing Fellow. She is a member of the Motion Picture Editors Guild, IATSE Local 700, and is fluent in Spanish. Beyond her editing career, Hackett has ventured into directing. She directed the short film Oleander, which has garnered attention for its storytelling. Hackett holds an MFA in film from UCLA and is multilingual, speaking both Spanish and English.
