Rodrigo Brandão

Born 1985 · Santos Dumont, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Rodrigo Brandão was born in the city of Santos Dumont, a small town in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. During his adolescence, he made homemade videos inspired by video games, TV shows, and movies. In 2007, at the age of 21, he independently shot the feature film "Era of the Dead," which tells the story of a zombie infestation in his hometown. The film was made with several friends from his hometown, and it was released directly on the internet in the pre-YouTube era. In 2010, he filmed the short film "A Maleta," which participated in film festivals. In the same year, he began to work as a self-taught filmmaker in various roles, including directing music videos, cinematography, editing, color grading, post-production, and digital special effects. In 2017, he was invited to participate in the feature film "Histórias Estranhas," a horror anthology with promising names in Brazilian horror. For this project, he created the short film "Ninguém," a story set in a deserted world that harks back to his first film, "Era of the Dead." "Histórias Estranhas" received awards in Brazil and Mexico and was released in the commercial cinema circuit in 2019. In 2019, Rodrigo Brandão released the short film "1996," a found footage-themed horror film. The film was shot on VHS and references his early experiments with homemade cameras when he was still a teenager.
